General Summary of Duties: Collects blood and checks the quality of blood from donors.


Example of Duties: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned)

  • Prepares equipment to efficiently collect blood products.
  • Performs venipuncture, capillary punctures on patients. Identifies and labels specimens.
  • Instructs patients on urine collection procedures. Allocates urine specimens.
  • Assists in the processing of laboratory specimens.
  • Cleans and sterilizes equipment, instruments, and work area.
  • Inventories supplies and places orders
  • Enter laboratory data into the computer system.
  • Attends required meetings and participants in committees as requested.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through in-service meetings and educational programs.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Performs related work as required.

Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or GED. Graduation from an accredited phlebotomy diploma program. Computer experience required.

Experience: One year of phlebotomy experience.

Certification/License: Phlebotomy certification preferred. Requires valid driver's license.
