Clinical Psychologist

GENERAL DUTIES: Provides evaluation and therapy services to individuals, families and groups. May also provide consultation, education and/or referral services. Conducts psychological testing as indicated or requested.

SUPERVISION: Reports to Administration

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Requires sitting for long periods of time.

Occasional bending, stretching or lifting. May require contact with individuals with communicable diseases. May require assistance in restraining violent individuals.

Requires the ability to work under high stress conditions for long periods of time.

Ability to hear normal range of voice. Ability to prepare written reports and use telephone and dictation equipment.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: (This may not include all duties assigned.)

  1. Interviews patient to obtain psychosocial history and conduct a psycho diagnostic evaluation. Job description manual for medical practice.
  2. Evaluates data and establishes treatment plan that provides measurable benefits to patient in a quality-focused, user-friendly and cost-effective fashion.
  3. If indicated by evaluation and treatment plan, engages in appropriate therapy within guidelines established in the department and/or by various managed care organizations with whom the department contracts for services.
  4. Involves patient in identifying and understanding presenting symptoms and current difficulties using a variety of modalities, including individual, group and/or therapy.
  5. Assesses patient progress and modifies treatment plan accordingly.
  6. Maintains documentation on all case records in accordance with stated department guidelines.
  7. Attends and participates in all departmental staff meetings, departmental / administration meetings and maintains department policies, procedures and quality assurance standards.
  8. Participates in multi-disciplinary staffing.
  9. Participates in professional development activities and keeps records of attendance to maintain Iowa Professional Psychology License.
  10. Educates and communicates with other clinic departments, community agencies and consumer groups as requested.
  11. Maintains patient confidentiality.
  12. Performs related work as required, including taking "call" per departmental policies and procedures.
  13. Conducts professional services according to written administrative and clinical guidelines as promulgated.
  14. Conducts psychological testing when clinically indicated or requested or assures that it is done by department psychometrist under supervision.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge and working comfort with a variety of modern, brief, problem-focused therapies to apply to individual cases appropriately.

Knowledge of available resources in the community. Skill in organizing and maintaining adequate records. Skill in psychotherapy. Skill in interviewing and communicating. Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team. Ability to deal with crisis situations. Ability to be flexible when patient care requirements dictate. Ability to maintain a caseload in response to target expectations stated by Director of Mental Health Services. Ability to communicate clearly with co-workers, outsider referral service and clinic physicians.


Education: Ph.D. from university or college with accredited clinical psychology pro-gram. Completion of internship required by degree.

Experience: Minimum of two years post-graduate work.

Certificate/License: Valid Florida clinical/professional psychology license.
