Radiologic Technologist/ Medical Assistant

General Summary of Duties: Operates radiologic equipment to make clinical diagnostic x-ray films as directed by physicians and performs routine diagnostic procedures. prepares patients for examination and treatment, takes patient histories and vital signs, prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments.

Typical Physical Demands: Requires moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds.

Typical Working Condition: Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

Examples of Duties: (This list may not include all of the job duties)
  • Position patients and adjust equipment for taking x-ray following established procedures.
  • Instruct patients regarding procedures. Observe patients' vital signs during examinations.
  • Prepares patients for examination and treatment. Takes patient histories and vital signs, documents, and patient records.
  • Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments. Stocks necessary medical and radiological supplies.
  • Cleans and makes minor adjustments to radiological equipment.
  • Follows prescribed safety standards in operating radiologic equipment.
  • Selects length and intensity for radiation exposure by adjusting equipment on individual patient basis.
  • Examines radiologic film for properties such as density and contrast, definition, magnification and distortion.
  • Authorizes release of patients upon completion of radiologic examination.
  • Participates in training in equipment operation, patient movement, and quality assurance.
  • Provides general information on departmental policies and procedures.
  • Attend required meetings and participate as requested.
  • Maintains strictest confidentiality in all matters.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Performance Requirements:
Knowledge, skills, & Abilities: Knowledge of anatomy and physiology to sufficiently pinpoint area for radiography. Knowledge of radiology equipment and testing. Knowledge of safety hazards common to radiology including equipment, body mechanics, and patient movement. Skill in properly positioning patients to provide quality imaging. Skill in training student technologists and coworkers in equipment operations and procedure if necessary. Skill in trouble shooting equipment operations and performing simple adjustments. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. Ability to apply written guidelines and standardized written practices. Ability to identify problems. Ability to communicate clearly. Ability to accept changing job requirements; learn new skills and apply those skills. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. Capability to maintain and respect confidentiality and HIPPA guidelines.

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Completion of course in radiologic technology approved by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
Experience: One year of experience as a radiologic technologist preferred. Computer experience required.

Certificate/License: Current certification (ARRT) with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and Florida State Licensure required. Credentialing as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) or a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferred.
