Surgical Technician

Performance Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:  Knowledge of the principles and practice techniques of medical and surgical care to assist in providing patient care and treatment.  Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, treatment, and surgical procedures.  Knowledge of surgical equipment and instruments to clean, decontaminate, wrap, and sterilize.  Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.  Skill in assisting physicians and nurses with surgical procedures.  Skill in taking vital signs.  Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations.  Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.  Ability to maintain quality control standards.  Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.  Ability to communicate clearly.   

Completion of course for surgical technicians from an accredited school.

Experience: Preferred one year of experience as a surgical technician, podiatry experience but not required.
